Isham, Henry S., was bom at St. Albans, Vt., April 8, 1827, and died at EastFairfield, October 2, 1889. His father, Asahel Isham, was a soldier in the Warof 1812. William Isham, father of Asahel, was honored by a badge of meritgiven by Col. Zebulon Butler for six years' faithful service in the Revolution.His discharge from the service is a relic now in the possession of Henry S.Isham, and is in the writing of George Washington. It bears the date of June7, 1783, and upon the back is the statement that it should " be considered inthe nature of a furlough until the ratification of the treaty of peace." Henry S.Isham married Eunice, daughter of Willis and Amanda (Soule) Northrop,October 26, 1853. Their children were: Effie M., bom October 7, 1855;Henry J., bom June 15, 1857; Jennie L., bom March 7, 1859, married HoraceW. Soule, June 20, 1877, and died Augusts, 1887, leaving one child, Annie J.;Clara C.; Gertie J., bom October 19, 1863J married Arthur Pomeroy; andAmanda E., bom August 21, 1869, married Edward B. Chase, December 18,1888. Henry married Emma Prouty, August 10, 1884, and has one son,Walter J., bom February, 1888. Henry S. Isham built the Isham House at EastFairfield about 1870, where he resided until his death. His kind and genialdisposition so endeared him to his family and friends that they truly felt that"a place was made vacant in our home which never can be filled."
